This film follows a Horse from his time as a plow-horse to his honorable service as a great war horse, and everything in between. We’re introduced to several different owner who love him and are always sad to see him eventually leave.
Pros
The film is really an epic tale about a horse which is pretty unique. It’s also well shot and the war scenes are pretty superb. The acting is pretty great, especially from Jeremy Irvine, Tom Hiddleston and Emily Watson. The scenery is pretty breathtaking and that really helps add to the film.
Cons
I hate to say it, but I was very bored. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only person that didn’t care at all about the horse, I mean his relationship with the boy is heart-warming and sad, but the brute of that emotion occurs within the first hours. The action happens in the second hour, pretty late at that, but by that time I was bored out of my skull. The film isn’t terrible, I mean I liked it, but I think it could have been better if it had been trimmed. At nearly two and a half hours, this is much too long.
Fun Fact: This was the film debut of Jeremy Irvine.

I thought the movie was pretty good. It was boring though.
Yeah, I’d say the movie was a high 2.5. I just couldn’t bring myself to give it a 3 as I was very bored while watching it.
I wasn’t a big fan of this one either. Also, John Williams score was just too much of the same old same old.
Yeah, John Williams is great, but his scores have been sounding too similar. We’re in a time where people are being recognized for creative, new scores and his are sort of getting left in the dust.
This is basically Spielberg trying his hardest to manipulate the audience with everything that he has left in his bag of tricks, and somehow it just works. Great review Austin.
Spielberg has a big bag full of tricks.
My brother referred to this film as Bore Horse in our review. Spielberg really lays on the sap in this one.
Bore Horse sounds just about right. Though, this would have been epic if it was called Boar Horse.
If they had gone all Saving Private Ryan with the war scenes it could have been epic and balanced out some of sappiness.
I have a hard time believing this was directed by the same guy who did Saving Private Ryan. I do, however, recognize that this was directed by the same guy who did Indy 4.
ugh don’t get me started on that Turd lol
There’s not enough drink in the world to make people forget about that one. lol
actually watched all four of those films on Spike a couple of weeks ago.
I have trouble doing that, too many commercials. Then I get impatient, switch the channel and then forget what I had been watching before. Sad but true.
I was watching it with my four year-old so the breaks are nice so he can run around the living room twenty times
That sounds like a smart idea, though it would probably be odd if I did that. No one wants to see a grown man running by himself in circles. Especially because I would stick my arms out like an airplane.
