Contraband (Film Review) [31 of 200]

A retired smuggler must get back into the game to save his wife, kids and brother-in-law after his brother-in-law screws up on a run. In order to save his family, Marky Mark must round-up a funky bunch in order to get enough money to pay the bad guy off. Too bad this bad guy is really impatient and keeps bothering our heroes wife.

Pros

Mark Wahlberg is a pretty intense guy and this movie shows that. It’s not his best performance, but it is a bright spot in this film. Everyone else give just OK performances. The story is decent, not really good, but not terrible either. Actually it sort of sounds like a Nic Cage movie.

Cons

I remember watching the trailer and thinking it was going to be a pure action movie. It’s not. What it is, is a slow-moving thriller that takes way too long to get good. The last 20-30 minutes was good, but everything prior was boring, to the point where I quit watching it and started up again after an hour-long break. There is a bit of action, but nothing too big. Honestly, with a few tweaks, and less language, this movie could easily have been PG-13.

00002Fun Fact: This was director, Baltasar Kormákur’s first “Hollywood” movie.
