The son of wealthy parents, Charlie gets kicked out of his private school for making fake ID’s. He then transfers to a private school where he slowly becomes the student body’s psychiatrist.
Pros
Anton Yelchin and Robert Downey Jr. give great performances. The time they spend on screen together is probably the best part of the movie. Kat Dennings is OK, but I’ve never really been a fan of her acting. The story itself is interesting. It’s basically about a young man trying to fit in, which we can all relate to, right?
Cons
I think many who watch this expect to see a comedy straight through, but this film isn’t like that. It starts out pretty funny, but the tone unexpectedly changes and the movie becomes pretty serious. I don’t mind it, but I was expecting the tone to change.
Fun Fact: The actor who played the football captain joined a football team to prepare for the role.

This is one I’ve skipped over at the store several times.
I did the same thing. I am glad to have finally seen it, though.
This has been sitting in my queue for eons now – I was figuring it’d be along the lines of “Chumscrubber”, a dark comedy type of thing.
I guess you could call it a dark comedy. It doesn’t have as interesting of a name as Chumscrubber.
I thought I was the only one to ever see this movie. I quite liked it. Charlie was very Harold in Harold & Maude. If I remember correctly they also sing the Cat Stevens song from Harold & Maude? Good little quirky movie. It was compared at the time to Ferris Bueller which is SO not accurate!
I haven’t seen Harold & Maude, but I’ve heard they are similar, in a good way. I agree, it is not like Ferris Bueller, not at all. Thanks for commenting.
